Queen Victoria Cruise Review

9th December 2007 - Emily

Emily & Staff

After On the 9th December 2007, May, Angela, Debbie, Anne, Erin and myself embarked Queen Victoria for a very special overnight event before the Duchess of Cornwall officially named her on the 10th December. We joined around 800 travel agents and we were treated to an evening of fine dining, stunning shows, music and dancing, but most importantly for ourselves, we had access to all the different grades of staterooms and suites and an opportunity to sample the Cunard experience and their newest ocean liner.

The ship was beautiful. It was more reminiscent of a 19th Century grand hotel or country manor than a cruise ship, with dark wood railings, filigree metal work, marble floors, stained glass and classical motifs throughout. A classic subdued colour scheme in the public areas and staterooms with a touch of glitz in the Hemisphere night club.

The Royal Court Theatre was spectacular and is the first to have private boxes at sea. The spa would be the perfect place to relax and treat yourself. The thermal suite had different scented steam rooms and hot and cold shower experiences to invigorate the body. The winter garden is a lovely area to have afternoon tea with retractable roof so can be enjoyed whatever the weather.Stunning Dining Room

The Golden Lion pub was a traditional English Pub, for a bit of home from home comfort. You can enjoy traditional meals such as fish and chips, bangers and mash and shepherds pie. There was various other bars around the ship where you could enjoy your favourite tipple before or after dinner. We also treated ourselves in the Royal Arcade shops and walked round the Cunardia and saw some interesting Cunard memorabilia, artefacts and artwork.

The Queens room was the gracious ballroom with 2 beautiful crystal chandeliers above the hand crafted wood inlaid dance floor. We had a cocktail reception here and enjoyed live big band music and then headed to the Britannia restaurant for a sumptuous meal. Our waiters could not do enough for us and catered for our every need.

We were lucky enough to all be allocated balcony staterooms. It was well appointed with 2 single beds, and sofa, dressing table, LCD TV, Shower room, and Balcony. Lots of wardrobe space and the plushest duvets and pillows. We visited the other cabins that they had left open for viewing. The D4 inside cabin was very spacious with a beautiful double bed, vanity table and shower room. We also visited a P1 grade princess suite, a Q6 Queens Suite, a Q2 Master Suite, and finally the ‘pi est de resistance’ the Aquitania Grand Suite all lavishly appointed to the highest standards. Cabin

The next morning we all disembarked as the ship was being prepared for Prince Charles and Camilla's arrival.

The Queen Victoria would be ideal for the more discerning cruiser. Someone looking for a new liner to go on a world or sector voyage, someone who would prefer the smaller, more personal ship experience, someone looking for a traditional cruise experience who still embraces the golden age of cruising without all the gimmicks, or someone trying to fill the void that QE2 will leave when she retires in 2008. We all felt very privileged to be among the first people on board the Queen Victoria and it allows us to share with our customers first hand experience and knowledge
